Thoughts

I've named this flamenco painting 'Thoughts'. It depicts a flamenco dancer in a surreal setting with a red moon. This 'red moon' appeared in my artwork many years ago, when I was still living in the Netherlands. At first I didn't even notice it, but an art connoisseur, who saw my work during a solo exhibition in the Netherlands, wrote about the 'Red moon' in all my paintings in that exhibition. I was intrigued, but then found out that a red moon is a symbol for the Goddess of Isis, which represents, amongst other things, intuition, female creativity and even sensuality. As of then, till only a few years ago, I included the red moon in all my paintings. This is one of my very first flamenco paintings. I was invited for a joined exhibition in the village in southern Spain (in Andalusia, which is the cradle for Spanish flamenco music and dance) and the theme for this exhibition was the Spanish flamenco dancer. Since then I've created many flamenco dancer paintings. I've called this series 'flamenco with a twist'. The twist is that all my dancers are not necessarily dancing, but usually standing or sitting down, contemplating.
