Haniel

I named this painting Haniel as it is part of a series of angel paintings. The name Haniel referst to the archangel of joy. It was painted with acrylics on special paper with a linen structure. I created Haniel intuitively, depicting an angel holding 'herself'.  I tend to work in series and after a period of creating mainly flamenco dancer paintings (I live in southern Spain, in Andalusia, the cradle of the Spanish flamenco dance and music) I wanted to change the subject. It was a good time in my life and I was preparing for a solo exhibition in Nerja (province of Malaga) I was in the mood to paint light-hearted, positive, happy-making paintings and angels just appeared. Painted with acrylics, but I’ve incorporated some glitter, which becomes obvious when the light fall on the painting from a certain angle. 

I usually mix directly on the canvas and I never look for perfection. I search for  the perfection within the imperfection. I really enjoyed the mystique of painting Angels, which made me decide to create 33 smaller paintings, for an Angel oracle card deck, these are quirky images of Angels with a special message.
